The store shipped it back to the "mothership" and they replaced it for me. That shouldn't be happening to hardware. For me, they said that there was a defect on the coating causing the metal to rust. You could try a polishing cloth for gold and silver hardware. You don’t have to baby this bag – it’s not easy to scratch, even if it bumps into things when you’re walking or swinging it around. And mine doesn’t have any obvious scratches on it. (I only noticed a few tiny scratches on the YSL logo and some dust around it).
