All that said, 'Hate' is a strong word; I think the word 'overrated' might be the more accurate descriptor of the anti Panerai sentiment. Additionally, while it is true there are brand detractors, there also is much more of a cult following than for many brands. Panerai is a luxury brand just based on the price alone. In terms of "quality", my personal opinion is that Panerai's case and movement finishing does not justify the price. The Luminor Due line is complete crap. They look and feel .

I think there are two reasons for anti-Panerai sentiment - not everyone likes big watches and some people think it doesn't make sense to pay Panerai prices for watches with ETA/Valjoux movements. I say everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and ultimately people vote with their wallets. Panerai's popularity was brought about by their trendiness. Like all trends, this one is fading. I suspect 44-47mm watches will look as silly to most of the watch world in a few years as they do to me today. These camouflage straps are strikingly ugly – and some of the watches themselves are too. Panerai can do better.
